Time For A New Mailbox
It seems our mailbox had suffered yet another hit from our postal letter-carrier's truck, so it was time to replace the trusty, old box with something a little different.
Yep, there it is, Ka-Whump!
First, we had to saw the post off to about 24" from the ground, then the base was bolted to the post.
Next, the main body was bolted to the upper half of the post. As you can see, there is a neat, locking trap door in the back of the mailbox so packages can be left in it. If the mail is just small items, the regular-style door in the back of the mailbox, makes it so we don't have to step out into the street to check for mail.
This is what the completed unit looks like. Katrina is standing next to it to give a sense of scale.

That is a sweet mail box... Congrats... and a sad goodbye to the old mailbox.
Enjoy the new "member" of the family.
