New Seat In The Cockpit

I finally made up the cockpit seat/fuel tank cover for the sailboat. It is made out of red oak (hmmm, red oak, it seems to be a trend) and I couldn't find a piece long enough to reach front to back, so I had to join 2 sections together on the top surface. I still have to stain and clearcoat the wood.

Here is the underside view, it shows the hinges so this can be folded flat for easy storage. The two square pieces of aluminum tubing join the two wood sections and center the piece between the rails of the boat.


And here is the before picture. You can see the grooves that the wood panel sits in. It was a bit difficult sanding the rear-most part so it matches the curve of the stern section.
