The Week In Review - 10/11/14
We went to see the Tampa Bay Lightning play their opening game. Details further down.
We attended a going-away geocaching event, but unfortunately, the guest of honor was running late, so we didn't get to see her. This is a picture of the spot we were at in the mall, chatting and dining on what was available from the food court. We hung out for a while and then went back home. Remember, Click-A-Pic to see a larger version of the image.
As I was heading home from work, these two police cars were parked partially in the road to my left as they had pulled over a young kid on a scooter. When I made it to the stop sign of the intersection, one of the officers opened up the rear door of the car that was partly in the road so he could have something to lean on while he chatted with another officer. The net effect was that the open door was in the way of oncoming traffic and blocked my view as I sat at the intersection. When I attempted to cross the road, a car swung wide around the police car to miss the officer standing in the road with his back to them, and the car almost hit me as I was crossing in front of him. When I took a good look at that location the next day, I could see that the police could have parked their cruisers well off the roadway while interrogating the scooter driver. Oh well, it was all my fault, I guess...
One surprising thing, is that I drive through the main grounds for the Strawberry Festival on my way to and from work every day. This are the front gates where the visitors come through. I'm wondering what this area will look like when the festival comes to town.
So, I was running a bit late coming home from work this time, and I can see that it's a good thing that I'm going in the opposite direction than the traffic to my left. Stop and go for miles and miles, that has to suck!
One of the benefits though, is that I get to see sunsets like this one...
Yes, that's how much I had to pay for gas after driving back and forth for work 6 times. The van is not necessarily a fuel efficient vehicle. Plenty of impetus to finish working on my 4-cylinder sports car.
Now, that's an interesting company name. I guess the employees came proclaim with pride that they work for a Bimbo...
Remember the Tampa Bay Lightning I mentioned above? Well, we were there to honor an award recipient that was a guest of Jabil. He was in the limelight for several minutes as they broadcast this on TV from the Jabil suite at the Amalie Forum.
There he is, receiving a check to help out with the charity he volunteers at and helps to keep it going.
And now we cut back to him live after he put on the Lightning jersey while standing in the suite we were in.
After that was done, we saw somebody (something?) peeking over at us form the next suite over. Hey, it's the Lightning Bug!
He came by the Jabil suite to say hi, and to pose for some pictures. Hi Luann!
well, time to get back to the game. The Lightning did well for their opening game of the season by winning 3-2 against the Panthers.
This cute stuffed giraffe was won by Luann in a drawing and he came with tickets to a behind-the-scenes tour of a local place to visit, the Lowry Park Zoo. Last year, Luann won a Dyson vacuum cleaner in the drawing, but I had to take it apart and fix it before we could use it, so I was glad to see I wouldn't have to fix this prize!
Well, that was our week in a nutshell, take care everybody!
