Geo-Event At Wall Springs Park

So, we decided to go to a geo-event held at Wall Springs Park and at the same time, we were able to award our 4th place winner of our Geo-Gem contest.

As you can see, Luann and I were joined by "The Teen-agers" and Captain Biggins. So, what are we doing here, playing a game of "I-Spy"? Remember, you can click on the images to see a larger version of it...

Here is the pavilion with several of our fellow geocachers in attendance.

And when we swing the camera to the right, you can see even more 'treasure hunters'.

We sat towards the back of the pavilion and talked with Cusmith (our 2nd place winner) and Flyingbird 'alighted' on the bench next to him, whereupon we presented him a clear trophy gem, 2 geocoins and a trackable geogem, all chosen via blind drawing. He was such a good sport during the contest that we upped the ante, so to speak.

And here he is, showing off his trophy in front of a couple of family members. Look at that smile!

Speaking of smile, Katrina won this cute little guy in a raffle-drawing from the event. It is hand-painted by a goecacher named Dreaming Tao, whom had several of them to give away.

And now, it's time to start looking for hidden treasure, or geocaches, that is.

You can see I'm all rigged up, to include a walking stick with a compass embedded in the top of it that I got from Karen for my birthday. I love getting things that have lots of usefullness like that.

And here I am with Captain (not so) Biggins, whom has been losing quite a bit of weight. He's really looking good. As for myself, I hate getting so old that I have to look over the top of my glasses just so I can read my GPS at arm's length...

Luann did real well with her photoshoot out here. We've got some great shots we can use on our zazzle website.

She always seems to find these Great Blue Herons ready to pose for her.

Uhm guys... what are you waiting for? Oh yeah, Luann was taking pictures, so we were waiting patiently for her.

Yay! Brad found one!

Wow, it isn't often that you can get this close to a cicada without it flying away.

Talking about 'getting up in his grill'...

I think the kids are starting to get tired. It looks like they're sleep-walking.

A view from a height. Wading snowy egrets just doing their thing.

Actually, the view is really nice up here. And it helps that there's a geocache up here too...

Ah, a geocaching Zen Moment. Simply become one with the satellites, Grasshopper...

Here's a picture of the spring that is the reason for the park's name. An un-inspiring thing, actually.

So, we took pictures of the signs around the spring to help us understand what was so significant about it.

Wow, look at those bath houses. It's hard to believe how all of this was so nicely built up and now look at it.

That round section is about all that is left.

It sure looks like it was great place to visit back then. It still isn't all that bad, but what a place to hang out back then! So, that's it for our geocaching day. It was a bunch of fun, but it's time to go home now. C-U!
