A Night At The Races

Well, it has been a while since we've been to a local race track to see some cars hit the 'roundy-round', so I invited the guys from work to go with us. Well, it didn't go as planned, but it wasn't such a bad thing either.

So, we showed up at the shop and after inviting all of the members of the assembly area to go out to the races, and only Bobbi and Dino went along with Luann and I. That's ok though, because it was done on a kind of sort notice, so at least we didn't go out to the races empty-handed.

Here's a shot of the mini-sprints they now race at this track and are billed as a cheaper way to go sprint car racing.

They even had some straight-6 legends cars out there. They weren't fast, but they sure bounced off each other a bunch.

Yeah, whenever you get that run-down feeling and you don't feel like there is anybody else in worse shape than you are, just go to an automotive racetrack. You just can't help but to feel like life hasn't been as bad to you like it is for those around you. It's just so... uplifting... We saw girls dressed in their finest 'Trash-Ho', easy-off clothing, competing for the attention of the public's eye with the likes of a 20-something in a black ballgown and stilletto heels, and several very large women whom stuffed themselves into their best and most colorful 'sausage casings'. Uhm... Yuck!

And then there was this little guy, waving flags from the stands at the cars going by.

Oops, it looks like he's going for the yellow flag...

As you can see, it looks like his Dad crafted this box to store the different flags in it, so he can carry it to the track, then set it up in order to mimic the flagman's work up above him. At about this time, Bobbi headed out from the track. I'm glad she was able to come out to the track with us for as long as she could.

Ok, now it's time for the big sprint cars and as they slowly drove by in 4-wide formation, the crowd saluted them.

Unfortunately though, they kept wrecking after every start attempt. Here's a shot of a 12-car pileup that even sent one of the sprint cars up into the protective fence. Dino, one of the guys from work, decided to get up a go check out the carnage.

And here's Dino on the way back to his seat. He's looking a bit haggard after working all day, then heading out to see the races. After 4 restarts of the sprints and they still didn't get one lap up on the scoreboard, we decided to call it quits, so we left.

On the way out, we saw this nice looking old car in the parking lot, so I just had to get a picture.

Well, I can't say that my, "A Night At The Races" idea was a huge success, but at least it wasn't a total flop... We'll have to try this again sometime and hopefully, we'll have more people come out the next time.
