Katrina Tries On Some Dresses

11/13/10 - Saturday

When we went to the bridal expo in October, a bridal boutique made an appointment with Katrina for her to come by and try on some dresses. Well, things didn't go very well while we were there...

First off, we arrived at our scheduled time, and were told we had to wait. Since there were only 2 or 3 other people in the store, we thought that was strange. We were given a catalog so Katrina could choose the style of dress she had in mind from it. When she didn't see exactly what she was looking for, we walked around the racks to get a closer look at their offerings. It was about 15 minutes into our searching whereby we were finally called to the fitting area.

Katrina told the sales rep what she was looking for in pretty good detail to include the main features she wanted, which are an empire waist and halter-top style to the bodice. The sales rep took off and came back with this...

It's cute, but there are no straps on it, let alone a halter top or empire waist to its styling.

Next was this very plain-looking number with wide straps and no empire waist. When Katrina rejected this one, She told us that she thinks the sales rep is "pissed off" at her for some reason, by her attitude...

Next was this dress with a nice train and lace trim. Can you guess what kind of bodice it has? If you guessed a design that didn't have a halter-top to it by the way Katrina is holding it up with both hands, you guessed right!

Next up was a nice halter-top bodice attached to what Luann said looks like a ballerina costume. I have to agree with her, and the funny thing is, Katrina did say she was not interested in toule because it tends to be itchy to her.

In exasperation, the sales rep told Katrina to sit down and see if she could find something in the catalog, then announced that she has another client, so she will be tending to her...

This pretty much meant Katrina was left to try on the last of the couple of dresses the sales rep had brought her, with Luann helping her in and out of the dresses. This one here had these frilly flowerettes around the neckline, which were a bit bothersome. So much so, that she kept fiddling with them. Nope, not a good feature.

Katrina said that her hair was something of a problem, so Luann tied her hair up. Meanwhile, I took a picture of Melissa taking a picture of Katrina.

Next was this Grecian-Toga style of dress with a halter top and empire waist, but it really looks more like a bridesmaid's dress. At this point, you can see the disapointment on Katrina's face.

Things were getting successively crowded with every dress she tried on. By this time, the sales rep had cleaned out the dress clips from Katrina's changing room and moved them to the new girl she was attending to, so we couldn't see how this dress would look with it adjusted to her shape via use of the clips. Things were so busy, we were tripping over the dozen or so girls that were trying on dresses and their attendant sales-reps, Katrina didn't even want to walk over to the mirrored podiums to have her picture taken. The sad part is, this dress looked to be the one that was almost exactly like what she was asking for. Unfortunately though, it was at about this time where the 'blushing bride' excitement was completely gone and all she wanted to do was get out of there.

We were kind of surprised when she told us on the trip home that the dresses she tried on and handed to the sales rep were unceremoniously dumped on the floor and then the sales rep just walked all over the dresses coming in and out of the changing room (then we saw a clerk hang them up and put them back on the racks as we were getting ready to go). Had we known that this place was like this, we would have gone to some other bridal salon, where we most likely would be treated as though this might be something of a special situation to us (you know, like choosing a wedding dress).

We'll have to try this again, but I'm going to research the next bridal salon first before we go.
